Celibacy
Chapter 3
If this is happening in your life, I can sympathize and only suggest
two things. First, you should know that you have a right to be happy
and fulfilled, emotionally, sexually, and in every other way. Secondly,
you need to remember that while you may feel you have lost control
of things, you are still steering your own life. You will have to
begin with opening up to yourself, and answering the hard questions
honestly. Ultimately you will also need to communicate your findings
with to your partner. Do you want to try and fix it, or is it time
to leave? Is a life of bitterness, recriminations and sexual starvation
an option that you really want to pursue?
If you may feel that you can't take this on, because you don't
have any energy left, well then you may need help. Marriage counseling
can certainly be effective, and you don't have to be legally married
for it to work. Counseling can either help you fix your relationship,
or else get assistance and support you require through the difficult
but necessary process of ending it.
In the end celibacy is never as straightforward as it sounds. It
is almost always surrounded by a myriad of other issues which are
responsible for this condition. It seems to me that almost nobody
would choose a life of celibacy simply because they "don't
like sex". So, if find yourself celibate, it may serve you
very well to honestly investigate the reasons for it.
